Drivers/Hardware :: Can't Boot After Changing SATA Mode And RAID
Dec 2, 2015So at first, I was trying to resolve an issue with my BD-ROM drive described here: XPS 8700 - BD-ROM (HL-DT-ST DVDRW/BDROM CH20N) Not Recognized Windows 10 - Disk Drives (HDD, CD/DVD, Blu-ray) Forum - Disk Drives - Dell Community
However, when attempting to try different things, I am now in a position where I can no longer boot to Windows 10. More specifically, when I turn on my computer, I get an error saying no bootable drives found and it just lists my SATA 1, 2, 3, etc. drives with an option to restart or go to BIOS setup. In other words, I don't even see Windows anymore existing.
My basic computer specs:
Dell XPS 8700 SE
Intel Core i7-4700
Windows 10 with 1511 update
2TB hdd with 32GB mSATA SSD cache drive
16GB RAM
BD-ROM
I need to get Windows working again, and hopefully, get back my data. Ghosts of dragonspear castle free download torrent. Here's what I did to cause the problems:
1) I went to Dell UEFI BIOS setup, and changed the SATA mode from 'RAID' to 'AHCI'. Saved and exited BIOS.
2) After rebooting, Windows failed to load, had a consistent blue screen with the sad smiley face with error 'IO1_INITIALIZATION_FAILED', automatic repair also failed.
3) I tried reverting back to 'RAID' in SATA mode in BIOS, but it failed to change anything. Windows still wouldn't boot
4) I then entered into the special BIOS menu showing devices which listed my mSATA cache drive and hard drive and RAID settings. Since it showed that the cache drive was 'Disabled', I thought I could fix my issues by re-creating the RAID array.
5) I tried to delete the current RAID setup shown in that BIOS menu, then chose the option to recreate the RAID0 array by selecting the option to create a 'Striped Disk Array'.
6) Once I did the above, Windows itself disappeared, and trying to undo the RAID0 option did not fix anything
So now I am no longer seeing Windows, not sure if my data on the hard drive still exists, and my cache drive (obviously) is not working.

Asus Z97 Pro MB - Can Raid-1 Only 2 Of Three Installed SATA Drives / OS Is On SSD
Oct 19, 2015I have a PC with Asus Z97-Pro mb. OS (W10) is on SSD. Two SATA HDD's (each 1 TB) contain dissimilar data. Can I add a third SATA drive (1TB) and create a RAID-1 configuration with only one of the two existing drives? The mb manual says that when SATA ports are set to RAID mode, all SATA ports run at RAID mode together. Does this mean that I cannot do what I am asking?
Installation :: Change SATA Controller Mode To IDE But Cannot Find It
Aug 26, 2015I recently had my PlayStation 3 system corrupt, and I had two options, to delete all of my data and start new, or go trough a long process to restore my data.
To restore my data, I need to change my computer to the SATA Controller mode IDE, but I can not find it in the system BIOS. The closet thing I can find is switching between AHCI and ATA, but I need IDE mode.
Where can I find the setting to change it?
Drivers/Hardware :: Xbox One Controller And External USB Driver Are Not Working
Feb 10, 2016I installed Windows 10 for the first time a few hours ago. I like the new interface, etc, but I have a few problems:
Xbox One wired controller doesn't work. Windows 10 automatically install a driver for it, but it still doesn't work. I tried some solutions like this, but without success. I haven't that Microsoft Xbox One Controller entry he wrote about.
Xbox controller works fine with another PC. And these USB ports as well, works fine with other devices.
Drivers/Hardware :: Intel RST RAID Driver Causing Disk Errors
Jul 30, 2015I have a PC with Asus P9X79 Deluxe motherboard. It has Intel chipset and Intel BIOS RAID (RSTe) and 6 SATA ports connected to it. The chipset IDE controller lists in Linux as:
Intel Corporation C600/X79 series chipset SATA RAID Controller (rev 06),
and the PCI ID is:
0104: 8086:2826 (rev 06).
My RAID configuration is 2xOCZ-VERTEX4 256GB SSD's in RAID0, as boot drive (C: drive), and 2 (quite old) WDC WD2500KS 250GB disks in RAID0 for extra storage (games, movies etc) (J: drive).
So yesterday I decided to upgrade my Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 10 Pro. All seemingly went well during the upgrade process, and the system booted fine, and most stuff seemed to work as it should. But after a while when I accessed files on the J: drive I started experiencing random (temporary) freezes.
Then after a while it got more serious and the whole system froze, I had to hit the reset button.
So I rebooted and looked in the event log, I get see tons of errors there saying that the disk has a bad sector.
Then I try using the J-drive again, by viewing some videos there, and it works fine, but after a while there are some freezes and then I see in the event log, that the drive was reset. After this it works again for a while but then another of those resets comes, and freezes everything for a short while (like 30 seconds).
But when I try to copy some large files off the J-drive, another reset comes, and then the event log starts showing a lot of the error messages from before, with 'the disk has an bad sector'. (I will post screenshots of these errors after I reboot back into Windows).
After this I can't access the J-drive at all, and Windows gives me error messages when I try to.
So, I figure that I might have just got unlucky and the old WDC drive actually developed read errors, although it's strange that it happens exactly when I install Windows 10 (these drives are something like 7 years old).
Well I can't copy the contents off the disk from Windows since it keeps failing as described above, so I boot into Ubuntu Linux from a USB stick, so I can use ntfsclone to image the J-drive to another disk. I start it running expecting that I'll start seeing read errors, but to my surprise there are NONE. It also copies all files off the J-drive without any problems from inside Linux!
So it was after all not the old drive that had failed, but instead Windows 10/Intel had failed me in a big way.
I trawled the web for updated Intel chipset drivers and installed those from the Asus site, but it made no difference at all. I couldn't find any other Intel drivers and when I searched for the RST drivers on Intel's own site, I could only find ones for Windows XP upto Windows 8.1, but none for Windows 10.
For now I'm left with a PC that I can't use, because I can't go back to Windows 7 and Windows 10 is not working with my RAID arrays. I got some spare 2TB disks, and I'm right now copying all the data from the old J-drive (the RAID1 about 500GB) over to this, hopefully I can then work in Win 10, but I am VERY concerned because the same RAID and drivers are used for my master boot drive with the two OCZ SSD's.
Hardware Loss After Driver Updates
Dec 24, 2015Following a notification that I had a number of drivers which were 'very old' I updated them.
As a result I have lost the following hardware, which are not detected as being installed:

2. Sound ---- there are no audio devices
3. The webcams --- no camera or video devices are detected
PC Performance Loss After NVIDIA Driver Update
Aug 18, 2015General decrease in PC performance. So yesterday I updated my NVIDIA drivers from GeForce Experience (driver version 355.60) and ever since that my PC's performance has dropped considerably. Things are generally slower, but it is most most noticeable in games.
before the driver update I would get solid 60+ FPS in Battlefield 4 at Ultra settings, but now the average is 30-40 FPS on medium settings. Same situation for all my other games. I have tried uninstalling the driver and reinstalling it, and installing an older driver to no avail.

Forced Xbox 360 Controller Driver To Dongle Now No Sound?
Dec 25, 2015My friend gave me a wireless USB dongle to use with my Xbox 360 controller for my PC tower. For whatever reason, Windows wasn't recognizing the dongle so I forcibly-assigned the Xbox 360 Wireless Controller driver present in Windows 10 to the dongle. Now, I can connect my Xbox 360 controller, but I have lost all sound output. I have tried updated drivers, reinstalling, and disabling specific drivers to no avail. At one point, uninstalling this Creative sound driver(which worked earlier) made my sound work for an hour, but now my sound doesn't work again. I don't want to reinstall Windows and lose all the applications a friend downloaded for me.

Complete Loss Of Desktop Functionality After Upgrade
Aug 12, 2015I have a custom built computer with the following relevant internals:
Intel Core i5-3750k Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo)
ASUS P8Z77-V LE LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
G.Skill Ripjaws Series 16Gb (4.4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1333
ASUS HD7850-DC2-2GD5-V2 Radeon HD 7850 2GB 256-Bit video card
Samsung 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD128BW 2.5' 128GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive
I was using Windows 7 with an external wifi adapter for internet access and the computer was perfectly fine. Upon upgrading to Windows 10, I instantly ran into issues that quickly grew worse. From the get go, I was unable to utilize anything on the taskbar, including icons that I placed there like Chrome and the newly installed Edge. The search bar was likewise inaccessible and now, after multiple restarts, I can no longer use the Start button with either mouse or keyboard. The internet icon on the taskbar will not work and even when attempting to access the internet after hitting ctr+alt+del, I find that the computer cannot even detect a connection, even though I know it should be able to. After a few minutes trying to mess around with other fuctions, the entire computer basically freezes and the entire computer locks up forcing a hard reboot.
Pictures and videos will not load (I can click on the My Computer icon on the desktop and access everything there), the computer telling me the files are corrupted. Same goes for documents, and games will not launch (Steam obviously cannot connect).
For lack of a better term, this issue is.. weird. It's like I only have selective functionality over certain programs, although its selective enough that it has basically rendered my PC useless. I cannot even figure out how to uninstall Windows 10 because I can't access the Start menu.
Upgrade Fail Due To WiFi Connection Loss?
Jul 27, 2015I was upgrading from WP8.1 to W10 and all was going fine but then my internet connection went off for about 1 minute and then back on. Ever since that happened, the phone has been restarting (Nokia logo) and then the cogs are displayed for abt 15 seconds and the phone switches off. It repeats this if the USB cable is plugged in. I cannot use my phone.
Drivers/Hardware :: SATA Drivers Update
Sep 2, 2015I noticed after a clean install of Win 10 Pro that in the Device Manager I had two 'Standard SATA AHCI Controller' entries that showed the driver dated in 2006. I run 2 x SSD's a HDD and a BluRay writer.
So I downloaded the latest version of SATA drivers at the Asus ROG site for my motherboard. After running, one entry in Device Manager has changed to 'Intel(R) 8 Series/C220 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller' but the other remains 'Standard SATA AHCI Controller' - still with the 2006 driver version 10.0.10240.16384 dated 2006/06/21
ALSO: The driver installed 'Intel Rapid Storage Technology' program. Do I need this? If I do need it, must it be enabled at start up? I am wondering if it might conflict with Samsung's Magician which I also have installed?

Drivers/Hardware :: USB 3.0 Controller Missing?
Dec 25, 2015I have been having a problem with the USB 3.0 ports on my computer.
This computer is a Windows 10 64-bit machine that I built in November. It has an Asus P9X79 LE motherboard, and an Intel i-7 4820 CPU.
A few days ago, I noticed that two external drives attached to the two rear USB 3.0 connections were not showing up among the listed drives. This MB also has a USB 3.0 header, to which I have connected four USB 3.0 ports on the front of the case. I found that my drives, and other USB devices, were recognized and worked fine when plugged into the front ports, but not when plugged into the back.
The first thing I did was check the USB section of the Device Manager. The USB 3.0 controller was listed, and there were no warnings (yellow ! icons) to indicate any problems. Since then, I have tried the following:
First, I searched for hardware changes in the Device Manager. It found nothing.
Second, I deleted the USB 3.0 controller and rebooted to get the system to reinstall the device. It did reinstall the device, but this accomplished nothing.
Third, I updated the BIOS to the latest version on the Asus website. I verified with ASUS that this was indeed the most current version. No change.
Fourth, I updated all chipset drivers for the MB, with the current files on the Asus website. No change.
Then, a couple of days later, the front USB ports stopped working. Checking the Device Manager, the USB 3.0 controller is now missing. Checking online, I found a suggestion that USB 3.0 might be disabled in the BIOS, so.
Fifth, I checked the BIOS settings, and found no way to enable or disable USB 3.0.
One thing that is very odd about this, which the Asus tech commented on, was that the front ports were working while the back ones were not, since they rely on the same controller.
Second, if I were to purchase a PCI-e USB 3.0 board, would it have its own controller, so I won't have to rely on the Asus MB for this functionality?
Drivers/Hardware :: DVD / CD SATA Drive Not Reading Disks
Aug 12, 2015Since upgrading my SATA DVD/CD RW will not work. I insert a disk the light come on showing it is reading and than the drive opens and the pop up box appears stating 'Insert Disk' . So I cannot install any of my software. I have read that a lot of people are having the same problem.
I went into Device Manager and it show this device is working, the drivers show 2006. The Drive is TSST corp CDDCDW SH-203N. I am Dual booting and at least get some work done on the tried and true Win 7 Ult.
Drivers/Hardware :: Change Internal SATA Disk
Sep 26, 2015I just spent a long time trying to find the best answer for this and wanted to save people some time.. this is specifically for Windows 10.(So, the answer is basically here: URL..Add a new 'Multi String Value' called 'TreatAsInternalPort' to HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE SYSTEM Current Control SetService sstorahciParametersDevice with the values '0 1 2 3 4 5 ' (the symbolizes a new line)(I had to reboot two (2) times before the changes took.)
I had to do this fix because BitLocker has different options specifically for fixed, local, internal drives as opposed to a USB drive or eSATA drive which is removable. Also, this gets rid of the 'Eject' option in Windows 10 for mislabeled internal HDDs.This is what it looks like when storing the values into 'TreatAsInternalPort':

Drivers/Hardware :: Switch From AHCI To RAID?
Jan 30, 2016I have Windows 10 Pro installed on an SSD in AHCI mode.
I would like to add a RAID 1 array to this system for storage but I understand some registry tweaks must be made before I can change my BIOS from AHCI to RAID mode or I'll end up hosing Windows.
I've read that the edits for older Windows at [URL] do not apply to Windows 10. know the registry edits that work for Windows 10?
Drivers/Hardware :: Internal SATA HDDs - Convert To NAS Storage
Dec 14, 2015I've about 4 SATA HDD's that I've removed from computers that I've junked -- all SATA about 12 TB.
Is it possible to build an enclosure and create a NAS drive -- I can easily make external USB drives but I think a NAS storage system would be better. What I need to do --should in theory be easy just need some sort of network card and an OS.
Drivers/Hardware :: Unable To See External Hard Drive Using USB - SATA Connector
Feb 10, 2016The power went out while doing a Windows 10 update. I purchased a USB to SATA connector, connected it to another Windows 10 PC's USB port. The external hard drive that I removed from my other PC is not showing in Windows File Manager.
Drivers/Hardware :: Hot Plug SATA HDD Or DVD Drive Doesn't Shows Or Not Detected
Jan 8, 2016Usually when we plug in a SATA drive it will show up in explorer but it doesn't now after I install Windows 10 (clean install). It work well when I'm on Win 7.
I've check the BIOS it indicate all ports AHCI an I never change anything since Win 7. So what could be the problem? As I swap drives often this feature really important for me..
Drivers/Hardware :: Second SATA Drive Showing In BIOS But Not Device Manager
Aug 17, 2015I've just added a 2nd HD to my Dell system with Win 10. It shows in the BIOS and Seagate tools finds it. It does not show up in Device manager or Computer Management/Storage - Disc Management or anywhere. Not sure if this si Won 10 specific.
Drivers/Hardware :: Hard Drive Space Loss After Expanding Partition
Oct 15, 2015I have a 120 gig solid state hard drive, that I have my OS installed on (Windows 10)
I was going to install windows 7 on a second partition on that hard drive, so I shrank the current partition and it gave me unallocated space.
I had a few people tell me it wasn't possible to install windows 7 on the same hard drive as windows 10.. for some reason or another.
So I decided to expand the partition back to its original size (the whole hard drive).
Before I shrunk the partition. I had 60 gigs left, I shrunk it by 20 to install windows 7 on.
Well after some people told me it wouldn't work. I decide to re-expand the partition to take back up the whole drive.
Problem is, when I did that. I loss that 20 gigs, it says that 20 gigs is 'used' space now. I tried scanning the hard drive for errors and defragging (won't let me defrag that drive. I assume cause its either a solid state drive or the windows drive)
I don't know how to get that lost 20 gigs back.
Drivers/Hardware :: XBOX 360 Controller Working On Laptop But No Longer On Desktop
Nov 7, 2015Raid Controller Driver Windows 10 To Usb Download
All of a sudden my XBOX 360 controller has stopped working on my desktop. I will connect it to a port it will blink 2-3 times and then it won't show up on device manager or anywhere. It was working just a few days back. I purchased Project Cars and now am panicked since I don't have money for a wheel and can't drive with keyboard. I thought maybe it was the controller itself, but it works fine on laptop-lights up in middle and can use it with emulator. Here is my desktop specs.

Drivers/Hardware :: UBS2 And UBS3 Host Controller Code48 After First Reboot
Jul 30, 2015Windows 10 Software Raid Controller
Okay, I upgraded from Windows 7 64Bit to windows 10 Home 64bit.
Everything ran smooth and fine. I first get into windows (after the 'Hi' screen and setting up apps screen) and I see my desktop. I install the latest video drivers first thing. I go to reboot and when It boots back into windows.
NONE of my USB devices are working at all. I had to use splashtop (remote desktop service) to connect to my windows 10 PC to be able to control it at all. Come to find out.
ASmedia USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller (3 of the listed)
and
Intel C600/X79 series Chipset USB2 Enhanced Controller #1 (and #2)
all had exclamation points in front of them.
I click on them and it is giving me a code 48
which is windows is blocking the driver from starting because it has known issues with windows.
NOW it was working FINE until I rebooted the computer. It has done this TWO times.
I try to update the driver. it says I have the best driver installed.
I try to manually update the driver using C:/windows as the place to look. it says I have best driver installed.
I try to uninstall the driver and let windows install it again.. same results as above. it just gets the exclamation mark again immediately.
I tried uninstalling, rebooting. same results.
I tried looking on Asus's website for USB drivers for windows 10. They have NO USB drivers for windows 10 at all listed under my board. (Asus Rampage IV Formula)
Is there anyway to stop windows from blocking the driver? I also tried checking intel's website for USB drivers for windows 10. nothing.
Also I tried installing the Intel Chipset Software that is listed on this site, though for some reason it won't let me install it. It keeps asking for SetupChipsetx64.msi, and keeps looking in a folder in which it doesn't exist. and the .msi is not in the folder that you extract from the download either.
How are manufacturers this unprepared for a OS launch?
Raid Controller Driver Windows 10 To Usb Adapter
So this past weekend I upgraded to Windows 10 from 7 and it went very well. I have a USB Microsoft Digital Media Pro Keyboard and IntelliMouse 2.0 wireless mouse, both of which were prompted to install the software suit first thing after Win10 welcome desktop and worked perfectly.
However, I wanted to have a 'clean' install, so today I did a PC Reset. Everything went well til the Win10 screen to enter regional info, when my USB KB/Mouse weren't detected/working. Thankfully I still had an old PS/2 KB/Mouse that worked after a restart.
Here's the problem -
I used these to check my drivers -
https://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow..pdate-Utility-
http://www.intel.com/p/en_US/support/detect
and Intel said I didn't need any. I know the ports are good because my USB keyboard and mouse both light up during Intel Bios flash but go blank once
Windows 10 starts up.
I'm thinking there was something changed in the registry during the PC Reset that made these controllers incomplete. I also couldn't find anything on
Intel's website to download these drivers either. They tripped these events -

Funny how a clean install is supposed to work better than an upgrade lol.
Thanks for any help!
